As we are based in Australia, and the overwhelming majority of our customers are in Australia, the following is based on Australian Dollar prices.
It's a great time to buy platinum jewellery. The current cost of a platinum ring in early 2020 should be only a bit more than the price of an 18k White Gold Ring, in most cases, and in some cases the Platinum ring can cost less than the 18k White Gold Ring.

Platinum wedding rings are a popular alternative to white gold wedding rings. We use the 950 platinum alloy which means 950 parts per thousand is platinum and the remaining 50 parts per thousand is made up from other precious metals in the platinum family, ie our rings are 95% pure platinum. This is the industry standard.
Platinum wedding rings can be ready in 10 working days.
Platinum Ring pricing
Currently a platinum 950 wedding ring will generally cost a bit more than the same sized 18k white gold ring
Some examples:
18k white gold ring price $420 ==> platinum ring price about $560
18k white gold ring price $730 ==> platinum ring price about $830
18k white gold ring price $1170 ==> platinum ring price about $1190
18k white gold ring price $1840 ==> platinum ring price about $1780
Pure Platinum currently (early 2020) costs much less than Pure Gold, so why aren't platinum rings much cheaper than 18k white gold rings?
-
Platinum 950 alloy (the alloy most used in Jewellery) is 95% platinum whereas 18k gold alloy is only 75% gold.
-
Platinum 950 alloy is also denser than 18k gold alloys by about 30%. ie a wedding ring that weighs 5 grams in 18k white gold will weigh about 6.5 grams in platinum. This fact again closes the gap in price between a Platinum 950 Ring and an 18k White Gold Ring.
- Working with Platinum alloy is more difficult than working with 18k White Gold alloy.
-
The costs to refine the waste from ring manufacture are greater for platinum than they are for gold so this too adds to the cost of a platinum wedding ring.
Platinum Wedding Ring Cost in comparison to White Gold Wedding Ring Cost - A worked example (as at early 2020):
Suppose you are a male looking to buy a white precious metal ring with a modern flat profile in 6mm width and 1.2mm thickness in a size V.
In 9k White Gold this ring will weigh approximately 5 grams and cost about A$700
In 18k White Gold this ring will weigh approximately 6.3 grams and cost about A$1,170
In Platinum 950 this ring will weigh approximately 8.2 grams and cost about A$1,250
The difference in price isn't all that great between the 18k white gold and the platinum 950, and the rings will look almost identical, however, they will feel different due to the different weights. The Platinum ring will have more heft.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the 9k ring is 37.5% gold, the 18k ring is 75% gold and the platinum 950 ring is 95% platinum.
